About a month ago Michelle left for Perth and I promised to take care of little Busta. I have grown to love the lil' fella...

I remember being a huge fan of Madonna when I was little. Oddly enough, my dad was the one who put her album on in the car, one day, and sang to "Like a Virgin" really loud. I had no clue about what that song really meant, but there I was shaking my baby booty, bopping my head up and down and just singing along.

Singapore pretty much banned much of the material that Madonna produced, stuff from her "In Bed with Madonna" on and off stage footage to her live performances all together. All throughout growing up, I was left with all that was played on the radio, a few music videos on TV and very body covered photos. In the early 90s, she had been scheduled to have one single performance at the indoor stadium. This, of course, excited me, and both my parents. We ALL wanted to see her! So, when the news came about her being banned from the country, I pretty much threw a mild tantrum and told myself that at some point, I would fly some place to see her. That never happened because, well, by the late 90s, she got into this spiritual-trance thing after her daughter's birth which just sounded crap to me. And then... it was not till 2000 or so that her music got slightly better... she was back to her diva self.

A couple of weekends ago, I stumbled upon "In Bed with Madonna"! That banned video!... except it was on DVD! Even better! There was no doubt that the concert footage was provocative and beautifully outragous... !!!!

I have several unpleasant comments to make about the way I grew up under so much censorship... but really, I guess there is no point wondering how things could have been anymore. Things are a tad bit better today... you can watch 'explicit" stuff if you're over 21... without too many censored cuts in the film... it used to be so annoying in the past... every few minutes there would be a cut or the sound would be blurred out. These days, you can get on the internet and find anything from hard rocking gay porn to websites for Canadian immigrant haters. Some sites are still blocked out, some movie scenes with gay content gets cut out and documentaries on racism/discrimination in Singapore never gets aired here.

I wonder if the censorship board would have banned my blog if they came across it in the 80s.

Conversation with silly lady at the bookstore...

Me:
Do you have any books by Kundera

Silly lady:
Yuck, you read his stuff... I really never get what he's trying to say.

----mind you the way she says "yuck" pushes your violent internal drives---- if i had been anything less than a restrained human being, she would have been dead in a flash.

Me:
*constipated expression* Ya, suits my personality. *Picks up "Dostoevsky's Last Night"*

Silly lady:
Oh god yuck, it's clear we have very different tastes in reading. I would never dream of picking a book like that up! *Makes disgusted face* I don't like books that make you think.

Me:
hmmmm. *represses feelings of violence*

unsound moments exploding into red blankness... sometimes this awkward rage rises and falls into blue depths... memory is an exploration of the living dead

i did something different with my painting this time. I wanted some texture, so I stuck sand on the board before painting over it. it turned out furry looking... strange

Ok, I have to speak up for Janet Jackson here! Come on! What's all this about people getting offended. It's a breast! Chill out! It's Janet Jackson's breast! Not like all of you haven't imagined her naked!
