great woman
she was by the corner, directing cars...playing traffic cop for the endless number of cars coming in to donate food and clothing for the victims of the tsunami earthquake. she was there for the entire day....perspiring.... she did it all with such serious intent and kind effort...

thought...
this earthquake has accomplishedin 1 day what Bush has been trying to achieve for 2 years.
other thought... i think that ever since 911, sars and my breast operation, over time, I have subconsciously begun to wake up feeling like it is the last day of my life... by late afternoon however, i forget... and push it back to the unconscious... but feeling that way when i wake up, is very empowering ... it's given me strength to make several decisions... life changing ones.

So this earthquake....
As I read articles in different newspapers, I had goose bumps all over... these few years have really been awakening for everyone... terrorism, sars, war...earthquakes... i wonder why we always thought we were safe... there are many folks in Singapore- expatriates, foreign workers, Singaporeans with families in the countries hit by the earthquakes yesterday... and the past few weeks... many people died yesterday.. over 10, 000...sri lanka, thailand, india, indonesia, malaysia... people all around us in Asia are grieving... i wonder if the govt's going to allow for counsellors/SWs to do work with some of the folks living here, at least in sg, to help them through this time. I know that our helper has been grieving since the last few earthquakes in manila and her province a couple of weeks ago... she's about to head home for a short break and to see what she can do back home.... i felt the heaviness as she went about her duties in the house and she was so teary... she was asked to just rest but she wanted to keep busy....
this new year is about to begin with grief...

It's amazing the things you notice as the sun first begins to set. I looked up at a tree on the way home today and saw the leaves sparkle like gold treasure.
I was on my way to class yesterday and a couple of highschool looking boys started following me. They got in front of me and tried to get my attention... but my ipod earphones were not coming out of my ears... I finally gave up and removed them... "We just want you to know you have pretty freckles."... i will never, this lifetime, see my freckles as attractive.
